CallerTracer ("CallerTracer", "we", "us") operates the website callertracer.com (the "Service"). This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it and the choices you have. It applies to visitors, registered users, people whose phone numbers are looked up on the Service and motor carriers whose public FMCSA records appear on it.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information you give us

  • Account details. Name, email address and password hash when you create an account, or the profile information shared by a sign-in provider such as Google.
  • Payment details. Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive the payment status, the last four digits of the card, the billing country and a Stripe customer identifier. We never receive or store full card numbers.
  • Lookup queries. The phone numbers you search for and the country you selected.
  • Community reports. The category, optional comment and the phone number you report.
  • Support messages. Anything you send to [email protected] or through a form on the site.

1.2 Information collected automatically

  • Usage data. Pages viewed, lookups run, features used, referring URL and the time of each request.
  • Device and connection data. IP address, browser type, operating system, screen size and language.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. A session cookie keeps you signed in. Analytics cookies help us understand how the site is used. See section 7.

1.3 Information about phone numbers

When a number is looked up we retrieve and cache information about that number from the sources described in section 3. This information is about the number, not about the person who ran the search. It can include the carrier, line type, area code location, caller name where a carrier publishes one and risk indicators.

1.4 Information about motor carriers

Our trucking pages show records that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) publishes about motor carriers, brokers and freight forwarders: company name, USDOT and docket (MC, FF, MX) numbers, address, fleet size, operation and cargo, operating authority, insurance filings and their history, and the contact details carriers report to FMCSA, including business phone, email address, cell phone number and the names of company officers. We add the line type of the phone numbers (mobile, landline or VoIP) from telecom lookup providers and flag numbers that appear in FTC or FCC complaint data or in our community reports.

3. Where number data comes from

Results are assembled from several layers. Each field on a result shows its source category and the date it was last verified.

  • Carrier and line data from telecom lookup providers that query live carrier records.

  • Area code and country data from public numbering plan records.

  • Caller name (CNAM) from carrier caller-ID databases where a name is published.

  • Risk signals from fraud-scoring providers and from reports submitted by CallerTracer users.

  • Motor carrier records from FMCSA's Company Census File and its Motus registration, authority and insurance files, published on data.transportation.gov and refreshed daily. Carriers report this information to FMCSA themselves.

We cache number data so repeated searches do not trigger repeated provider requests. Cached fields expire and are refreshed on a schedule that depends on the field type.

4. How we share information

We share information only in these cases:

  • Service providers that process data on our behalf: hosting, database, email delivery, payments (Stripe), analytics, and the telecom and fraud-scoring providers that answer lookup requests. Each provider only receives what it needs to perform its function.
  • Legal requirements. When required by law, subpoena or court order, or to protect the rights, safety or property of CallerTracer, our users or the public.
  • Business transfers. If CallerTracer is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Carrier records are shown on public carrier pages. A carrier's email address, cell phone number and officer names are shown only to users with a trucking data plan covering the carrier's state and to users who unlock that carrier, and they appear in those users' lead lists, daily emails and exports, subject to the use restrictions in our Terms of Service.

Aggregated statistics that cannot identify any person, such as the number of reports for a given number, may be displayed publicly.

5. Your number and your rights

5.1 Removing your number

If your phone number has a page on CallerTracer and you want it taken down, submit a request on the Remove My Info page. We process removal requests within 7 days. Once processed, the number's page stops resolving, it drops out of search engines and the community reports shown on it are hidden. Carrier, line type and area code data are factual attributes of a number and remain available.

5.2 Rights for California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA. To exercise these rights, email [email protected] with the subject "California privacy request". We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.

5.3 Rights for EEA and UK residents (GDPR)

You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your personal data, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interest. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Email [email protected] to make a request.

5.4 Carrier contact details

A motor carrier can ask us to hide its email address, cell phone number and officer names on the carrier opt-out page. We send the confirmation link to the email address FMCSA has on file for the carrier's USDOT number; once it is clicked, those details no longer appear on carrier pages, in lead lists, in daily emails or in exports. If FMCSA has no email on file, we verify the request by email within 7 days. The business name, USDOT and docket numbers, business phone, address, authority and insurance records remain, as FMCSA publishes them on its SAFER site.

5.5 Account data

Signed-in users can view and edit profile details and see lookup history in Settings. You can delete your account from Settings or by emailing us; deletion removes your account, lookup history and community reports tied to your account within 30 days, except for records we must keep for tax or legal reasons.

7. Cookies

We use a strictly necessary session cookie for sign-in, a preference cookie for theme, and analytics cookies to measure traffic. You can block cookies in your browser; the Service will still run free lookups without them, but you will not be able to stay signed in.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit with TLS and at rest by our hosting provider. Passwords are stored as salted hashes. Access to production systems is restricted to personnel who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International transfers

CallerTracer is operated from, and data is stored in, the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed there. For EEA and UK data we rely on standard contractual clauses with our providers where required.

10. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Not a consumer reporting agency

CallerTracer is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The Service may not be used to determine eligibility for credit, employment, insurance, housing or any other purpose covered by the FCRA. See the FCRA Disclaimer.
